Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition
In traditional Chinese medicine,哮病, also known as asthma, falls under the category of lung-related diseases. According to the "Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine," asthma is characterized by a whistling sound in the throat and difficulty in breathing. The etiology is often related to external invasion of wind and cold, internal accumulation of phlegm and fluid, and weakness of lung Qi, with the pathogenesis mainly manifesting as the failure of the lung to promote and descend, leading to the obstruction of phlegm and Qi.
In clinical practice, the core pathogenesis of asthma in traditional Chinese medicine is the failure of the lung to promote and descend, along with the obstruction of phlegm and Qi. Common triggers include external invasion of wind and cold, improper diet, and emotional fluctuations. During the process of differentiation, attention should be paid to the following key points:
1. Cold asthma: characterized by shortness of breath, coughing, rapid breathing, with a whistling sound in the throat and white phlegm.
2. Hot asthma: characterized by rough breathing, with a loud, whistling sound in the throat and yellow, sticky phlegm.
3. Deficient asthma: characterized by shortness of breath, exacerbated by exertion, recurrent attacks, and fatigue.
Overall treatment approach: Traditional Chinese medicine suggests that treatment should be tailored to the specific pattern, with cold asthma focusing on warming the lung and dispelling cold, resolving phlegm, and calming asthma; hot asthma focusing on clearing heat, promoting lung Qi, resolving phlegm, and calming asthma; and deficient asthma focusing on replenishing the lung and kidney, and regulating Qi to calm asthma. During the treatment process, it is also important to adjust the body constitution, enhance the body's ability to resist diseases, and prevent recurrence.

Physician's Clinical Insights
The physician's insight: In the treatment of asthma, it is essential to pay attention to the regulation of both the lung and kidney organs, while also considering the overall balance of the lung, spleen, and kidney.
