Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition
Internal Injury-Induced Fever (Chronic Low Fever)
In traditional Chinese medicine, Internal Injury-Induced Fever, also known as chronic low fever, is a type of disease related to Qi, blood, and body fluid imbalances. As recorded in the classical text "Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine," Internal Injury-Induced Fever refers to a condition caused by dysfunction of the internal organs, leading to an imbalance of Qi, blood, and Yin and Yang, which manifests as a low-grade fever. The characteristic of this fever is that it is not very high and lasts for a long time, often accompanied by symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, palpitations, and insomnia.
In clinical practice, Internal Injury-Induced Fever is a common disease pattern, with its core pathogenesis being the dysfunction of internal organs and an imbalance of Qi, blood, and Yin and Yang. Common triggers include emotional disturbances, irregular diet, and improper work and rest. During the process of differentiation, it is important to distinguish between cold and heat, deficiency and excess. For instance, Yin Deficiency-induced fever is characterized by afternoon heat, hot palms and soles, dry mouth and throat, and night sweats, with the treatment approach focusing on nourishing Yin and clearing heat, and removing deficiency and vapor. On the other hand, Qi Deficiency-induced fever is characterized by an increase in fever after exertion, accompanied by fatigue and weakness, with the treatment approach emphasizing invigorating Qi, strengthening the spleen, and clearing heat. The overall approach to treatment suggests that attention should be paid to harmonizing Yin and Yang, adjusting the function of internal organs, and restoring the balance of Qi and blood.
