Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition
In traditional Chinese medicine, "Yang Qiang" is known as an abnormal penile erection, referring to a persistent and prolonged penile erection that exceeds the normal physiological needs, is difficult to subside spontaneously, and is accompanied by pain. According to the records in "Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine," Yang Qiang is often caused by Yin deficiency of the Liver and Kidneys, downward flowing damp-heat, and falls under the category of urological diseases.
In clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, the core pathogenesis of Yang Qiang is primarily related to Yin deficiency of the Liver and Kidneys and downward flowing damp-heat. Common precipitating factors include emotional disorders, irregular diet, excessive sexual activity, and more. During the process of differentiation, it is necessary to differentiate between cold and heat, as well as deficiency and excess. For instance, the syndrome of Yin deficiency with hyperactivity of fire manifests as persistent Yang Qiang, dry mouth and constipation, and tidal fever; while the syndrome of downward flowing damp-heat manifests as persistent Yang Qiang, yellow and red urine, and irritability. The overall direction of treatment suggests adhering to the principles of nourishing Yin, reducing fire, and clearing heat and dampness to restore the balance of Yin and Yang and achieve therapeutic goals. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the treatment of Yang Qiang should focus on holistic treatment, combining the specific conditions of the patient and flexibly applying methods such as nourishing Yin, clearing heat, and promoting diuresis.
