Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition

Hip Joint Synovitis, categorized under the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Orthopedics, with the national standard code BWG. It is described in classical TCM texts as "Bishu Bi." According to "Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine," "Bishu Bi is caused by the accumulation of damp-heat or obstruction by cold-dampness, presenting symptoms such as pain, swelling, and limited movement in the hip joint."

In clinical practice of TCM, the core pathogenesis of hip joint synovitis is often related to the accumulation of damp-heat or obstruction by cold-dampness. Common precipitating factors include prolonged sitting, overexertion, and exposure to pathogenic cold and dampness. During differentiation, it is important to distinguish between cold and heat, as well as deficiency and excess. For instance, the damp-heat accumulation pattern is characterized by redness, swelling, heat, pain, limping, and fever, with treatment focusing on clearing heat and promoting diuresis, and reducing swelling and pain. In contrast, the cold-damp obstruction pattern is characterized by cold, heavy pain in the hip joint, exacerbated by cold, and treatment requires dispersing cold and dampness, and warming the meridians and collaterals. The overall direction of treatment suggests adherence to the principle of "differentiation and treatment" in TCM, with corresponding treatment methods based on different patterns.
