Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition

Dan毒, a category of surgical disease in traditional Chinese medicine, falls under the scope of "疮疡". According to the classic text "Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine", Dan毒 is caused by an invasion of fire toxin into the skin, leading to obstruction of Qi and blood, and resulting in red, swollen, hot, and painful skin. It is characterized by an abrupt onset, with the local skin appearing bright red in patches, with clear edges and distinct boundaries, accompanied by symptoms such as fever and headache.

In clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, the core pathogenesis of Dan毒 is the invasion of fire toxin and the obstruction of Qi and blood in the skin. Common precipitating factors include external pathogenic factors, irregular diet, and excessive fatigue. During differentiation of symptoms, attention should be paid to the following key points: first, the differentiation of cold and heat, deficiency and excess, with wind-heat toxin syndrome primarily presenting as redness and swelling on the head and face, burning pain, and fever; while damp-heat toxin syndrome is characterized by redness, swelling, blisters, or large blisters in the lower limbs. Second, the correlation between local and systemic symptoms, such as fever and headache. The overall direction of treatment suggests clearing heat and detoxifying, dispersing wind and removing evil, or clearing heat and dampness, detoxifying and reducing swelling. In clinical practice, the treatment of Dan毒 emphasizes both internal and external treatment, with internal medication focusing on clearing heat and detoxifying, and external medication focusing on reducing swelling, alleviating pain, and clearing heat and detoxifying. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that through reasonable adjustment, Dan毒 can be effectively controlled.
