Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition
Intestinal abscess, also known as appendicitis, is one of the surgical diseases in traditional Chinese medicine. According to the records in "Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine," an intestinal abscess refers to the obstruction of the intestinal meridians due to the stagnation of Qi and blood, and the accumulation of damp-heat, leading to the formation of abscesses. The pathogenesis is primarily characterized by Qi stagnation and blood stasis, damp-heat accumulation, and clinical manifestations include right lower abdominal pain, tenderness upon palpation, accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
In clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, the core pathogenesis of intestinal abscess is Qi stagnation and blood stasis, with common precipitating factors including irregular diet, emotional disorders, and excessive fatigue. During the differential diagnosis, it is important to differentiate between cold, heat, deficiency, and excess. The stasis syndrome is characterized by fixed pain in the right lower abdomen, tenderness upon palpation, accompanied by nausea; while the damp-heat syndrome is manifested by severe abdominal pain, tenderness upon palpation, fever, and nausea and vomiting. In terms of treatment, traditional Chinese medicine often adopts methods such as promoting Qi and activating blood circulation, and clearing away dampness and heat to treat the stasis syndrome, as well as clearing heat and promoting diuresis, and purging internally to treat the damp-heat syndrome. Overall, the treatment of intestinal abscess requires the flexible application of differential diagnosis and treatment methods in traditional Chinese medicine according to specific patterns, in order to restore the intestinal Qi, eliminate dampness and heat stasis, and achieve therapeutic goals.
