Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition

Postpartum Body Pain (Postpartum Joint Pain)
In traditional Chinese medicine, postpartum body pain is known as "postpartum body pain" or "postpartum joint pain," which falls under the category of gynecological diseases. According to the records in "Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine," this condition refers to the occurrence of symptoms such as limb and joint soreness, numbness, or heavy sensation in postpartum women, which is often due to postpartum deficiency of Qi and blood, malnourishment of the tendons and meridians, or obstruction by blood stasis.

The pathogenesis of postpartum body pain is centered around postpartum deficiency of Qi and blood, malnourishment of the tendons and meridians, or obstruction by blood stasis. Common precipitating factors in clinical practice include postpartum fatigue, irregular diet, and emotional disturbances. During the process of differentiation, attention should be paid to distinguishing the nature of cold, heat, deficiency, and excess:

1. Blood Deficiency Syndrome: Patients experience widespread soreness, limb numbness, and a sallow complexion. The treatment should focus on nourishing blood and Qi, and warming the meridians to unblock the collaterals.
2. Blood Stasis Syndrome: Patients experience body pain that feels like a needle pricking, which is more severe upon palpation. The treatment should adhere to the principle of promoting blood circulation to resolve stasis and alleviating pain.

In clinical practice, the direction of treatment for postpartum body pain is to pay attention to the nourishment of Qi and blood, warming the meridians to unblock the collaterals, and selecting appropriate treatment methods based on the specific syndrome type. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that through reasonable dietary adjustments, moderate exercise, and emotional regulation, it is helpful to improve the symptoms of postpartum body pain.
