Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition

Nasal Bleeding, known in traditional Chinese medicine as "nose bleeding," refers to a pathological condition characterized by bleeding from the nostrils. According to the records in "Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine," nasal bleeding is often caused by factors such as lung heat, stomach heat, liver fire, and hyperactivity of yin fire, manifesting as bright red blood coming from the nostrils, sometimes accompanied by symptoms such as nasal obstruction and itching.

In clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, the pathogenesis of nasal bleeding is primarily related to the dysfunction of the lung, stomach, and liver organs. Common triggers include emotional fluctuations, irregular diet, and overexertion. During the process of differentiation, attention should be paid to the following key points:

1. Core Pathogenesis: Exuberant lung and stomach heat, forcing the blood to flow out of its proper channels.
2. Common Triggers: Emotional excitement, spicy food, alcohol, and tobacco stimulation.
3. Differentiation Points: Nasal bleeding with bright red blood, accompanied by dry mouth and nose, is often due to excessive heat in the lung meridian; nasal bleeding with red, abundant blood, accompanied by thirst and constipation, is often due to hyperactivity of stomach heat.

Overall Treatment Approach: In clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, the treatment of nasal bleeding often involves methods of clearing heat, cooling the blood, nourishing yin, and reducing fire. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that by adjusting the functions of the lung, stomach, and liver organs, the goal of cooling the blood and stopping bleeding can be achieved. During the treatment process, attention should also be paid to dietary adjustments, avoiding spicy, greasy, and stimulating foods such as alcohol and tobacco, and maintaining a peaceful and contented mood.

Physician's Clinical Insights

In patients with nasal bleeding, the pulse being floating and rapid may indicate a heat syndrome, while a deep and thin pulse may suggest a deficiency syndrome.
