Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition

In traditional Chinese medicine, alopecia areata is known as "You Feng" (greasy wind), a condition categorized under dermatological diseases. According to the "Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine," alopecia areata refers to sudden, circular or irregular hair loss on the scalp, with normal skin in the affected area. It is often attributed to factors such as blood heat and wind dryness, as well as deficiencies in the liver and kidneys.

In clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, the core pathogenesis of alopecia areata is attributed to blood heat and wind dryness or deficiencies in the liver and kidneys. Common precipitating factors include emotional disturbances, irregular diet, and excessive fatigue. During diagnosis, it is crucial to differentiate the following key points: blood heat and wind dryness manifests as sudden hair loss, rapid progression, and redness in the脱发 area; deficiencies in the liver and kidneys are characterized by a longer course of the disease, smoothness in the脱发 area, and symptoms such as dizziness and lower back pain. The overall approach to treatment involves cooling the blood and dispelling wind, promoting blood circulation and hair growth, or tonifying the liver and kidneys, nourishing the blood, and promoting hair growth. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that by adjusting the patient's internal environment and balancing yin and yang, the treatment of alopecia areata can be achieved.
