Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition
Thromboangiitis obliterans, also known as "Lues Sanguinis," falls under the category of "Lues Sanguinis" in traditional Chinese medicine. According to the records in "Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine," Lues Sanguinis refers to a disease characterized by the obstruction of blood vessels, resulting in the impaired circulation of Qi and blood, leading to symptoms such as necrosis and ulceration at the distal extremities. It is characterized by a long course, recurrent symptoms, and may be life-threatening in severe cases.
Lues Sanguinis is a common disease in clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, with the core pathogenesis being the obstruction of blood vessels and the impaired circulation of Qi and blood. Common precipitating factors include invasion by cold and dampness, injury to Yin by heat toxin, emotional disorders, and irregular diet. In the process of differentiation, attention should be paid to distinguishing the cold, heat, deficiency, and excess, such as the syndrome of cold and dampness obstructing the collaterals, which is manifested by cold extremities, pale skin, and pain; and the syndrome of heat toxin injuring Yin, which is characterized by necrosis and ulceration at the extremities, severe pain, and fever. The overall direction of treatment suggests that the syndrome of cold and dampness obstructing the collaterals should be treated with warming the meridians and dispelling cold, promoting blood circulation and collaterals; while the syndrome of heat toxin injuring Yin should be treated with clearing heat and detoxifying, nourishing Yin and promoting blood circulation. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the treatment of Lues Sanguinis should focus on harmonizing Qi and blood, and unblocking the blood vessels to alleviate symptoms and improve the condition.

Physician's Clinical Insights
In patients with Lues Sanguinis, the temperature of the feet decreases, requiring the warming of Yang and unblocking of collaterals, while also promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis.
