老年性眩晕
Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition
Senile Vertigo, known as "dizziness" in traditional Chinese medicine, falls under the category of geriatric diseases. According to the "Textbook of Internal Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine," senile vertigo refers to a condition in the elderly where dizziness and dizziness are the primary manifestations due to factors such as liver and kidney Yin deficiency, insufficient Qi and blood, and internal obstruction of phlegm and dampness, leading to malnutrition of the clear orifices and blockage of the brain collaterals.
In clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, the core pathogenesis of senile vertigo is often related to liver and kidney Yin deficiency and insufficient Qi and blood. Common precipitating factors include long-term illness with physical weakness, emotional disorders, and irregular diet. During differentiation of symptoms, attention should be paid to the following key points:
1. Liver Yang Excess Syndrome: Patients often exhibit symptoms such as dizziness, tinnitus, irritability, and facial redness. The therapeutic approach is to calm the liver and subdue Yang, and to calm the wind and stop dizziness.
2. Qi and Blood Deficiency Syndrome: Patients usually show symptoms such as increased dizziness upon movement, fatigue, and pale complexion. The therapeutic approach is to tonify Qi and blood and to invigorate the spleen and stomach.
In clinical differentiation, it is also necessary to distinguish between cold and heat, as well as deficiency and excess. If a patient presents with dizziness, nausea, vomiting, a red tongue with a yellow coating, it indicates liver Yang excess; whereas if the patient presents with dizziness, blurred vision, pale complexion, and a pale tongue with a white coating, it indicates Qi and blood deficiency. The overall therapeutic direction suggests that in the clinical treatment of senile vertigo, it is important to harmonize Yin and Yang, tonify the liver and kidney, and adopt corresponding treatment methods based on specific patterns.
