Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition

Wind-Induced Deviation of Vision (Paralytic Strabismus)
In traditional Chinese medicine, Wind-Induced Deviation of Vision, also known as paralytic strabismus, is one of the ocular diseases. According to the "Textbook of Internal Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine," this condition is characterized by disorders in eye movement, manifesting as difficulties in eye转动 and blurred vision. It is generally believed to be caused by the invasion of wind pathogen, which obstructs the meridians, leading to malnutrition of the tendons and muscles, and subsequent paralysis of the ocular muscles.

In clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, the core pathogenesis of Wind-Induced Deviation of Vision is the invasion of wind pathogens, obstructing the meridians, and causing paralysis of the ocular muscles. Common precipitating factors include external pathogen invasion, emotional disharmony, and improper balance of work and rest. During differentiation, attention should be paid to the following key points:

1. Cold and Heat, Deficiency and Excess: Invasion by cold pathogens often presents with difficulties in eye movement and aversion to cold with cold extremities; invasion by heat pathogens is characterized by red and swollen eyes with fever; deficiency of both Qi and blood manifests as limited eye movement and fatigue.

2. Differentiation Points: A comprehensive judgment should be made based on the patient's symptoms, tongue, and pulse, such as difficulties in eye movement, diplopia, and sudden onset, which are typically attributed to obstruction by wind pathogens; limited eye movement, fatigue, and dizziness, which are often due to deficiency of Qi and blood.

Overall Treatment Approach: In clinical practice, the treatment of Wind-Induced Deviation of Vision often involves methods of dispelling wind, unblocking the meridians, and replenishing Qi and nourishing blood. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that by adjusting the balance of yin and yang in the body, unblocking the meridians, and restoring the function of the ocular muscles, the therapeutic goal can be achieved.
