Traditional Chinese Medicine Definition

Kneecap Softening Syndrome, known as "Kneecap Soft" in traditional Chinese medicine, is a condition classified under the department of orthopedics. According to the records in "Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine," this syndrome refers to the symptoms of pain, swelling, and limited mobility caused by the damage and degeneration of the cartilage on the patellar joint surface. The pathogenesis is often due to factors such as falls, overexertion, and kidney essence deficiency, leading to blood stasis and malnutrition of the tendons and bones.

In clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, the core pathogenesis of Kneecap Softening Syndrome is blood stasis and malnutrition of the tendons and bones. Common precipitating factors include long-term overexertion, trauma, prolonged sitting or standing. During the process of differentiation, attention should be paid to distinguishing the cold, heat, deficiency, and excess, such as the deficiency of Qi and blood manifesting as anterior knee pain exacerbated when climbing stairs; kidney deficiency and weak bones manifesting as soft and noisy knees, and weakness. The overall direction of treatment suggests that in clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, the treatment of Kneecap Softening Syndrome often focuses on invigorating Qi and nourishing blood, tonifying the kidneys and bones, and strengthening tendons and meridians. This is achieved through comprehensive regulation using methods such as internal administration of Chinese herbs, external application, acupuncture, and massage. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that by adjusting the balance of Yin and Yang in the body and restoring the circulation of Qi and blood, symptoms can be alleviated and function can be improved.
